Couch potato lifestyle

To make things worse I lead a very lazy couch potato lifestyle and never participated in any “exercise or fitness” events for the first 17 years of my life. I would sit all the time. I would sit in school, while studying at home and then watch TV for the rest of the evening. If I were dying of thirst, I wouldn’t get up to get a glass of water but waited for a passing family member and asked them to bring me water. How lazy was that and could anyone on planet earth have been any lazier?

My fascination with food

It got to a point where I was mesmerized with food to the extent that while I was in class or taking the school bus back home I used to wonder what my mom made for dinner and all I would think about and consume my mind is how I was going to get home and sink my teeth into the delicious food my mom made.

I hit rock bottom. My parents locking the kitchen

That was the very lowest point of my life and a time of desperation where funny thoughts started coming to my mind. Towards the end of my obesity saga my parents were real troubled with my skyrocketing weight and attempted hiding cookies and candy and locking the kitchen door trying desperately to help me stop eating between meals but to no avail. Needless to say that all my friends went on dates except me because of the way I looked “what girl is going to go out with me and that fat, ugly and totally insecure?” I thought.

Something desperately needed to happen

Something needed to happen because I could not take it anymore; and it did. The moment of victory arrived and took action during the most unexpected time. That’s what I’ll reveal in the next blog post. I will also reveal what unconventional way I used to lose a lot of weight and what were the challenges I faced to keep my weight off for the next 20 years.

My battle with obesity and getting bullied by other kids
(See my shocking photos before and after by logging to www.LifesstyleMakeoverEbook.com)

Oh yes I battled obesity for a good 17 years and then against all odds I defeated it. Ever since I was a child I was always the heaviest kid in my class and among my friends. Everybody remembers me as the overweight kid. School kids don’t have manners and want to be funny to other peers so they can bully or say harsh things to kids who are overweight like me without realizing the extent of emotional damage it caused me.

The humiliation of not finding clothes that fit me

All throughout my childhood and into my teens, when my parents would take me to buy clothes, almost always the clothing stores for kids would not have the plus sizes I had to have. The clothes I would try on would be too tight and not fit me. So the clothier’s sales people would often tell me the same statement that I remember to this day: “Sweetheart, why don’t you go on a diet and lose some weight and then the clothes would fit you”. I would smile in embarrassment and say to them in my mind “Sweetheart why don’t you go to hell and spare me your arrogant comment!”.

The Trauma I felt

All these events have marked me and traumatized me tremendously for a long time. It affected my self-esteem and I always had a negative self- image and I literally loathed myself and the body I was trapped in. I always thought that my opinion did not count, that I was always wrong, that I was not worth it and that I didn’t matter. I thought everybody was better than me.

I was a binge eater

I was a binge eater meaning I could consume a large amount of food in a short period of time and somehow got locked into a pattern of doing it over and over. I used to down a couple triple decker burgers with all the butter, bacon and cheese along with extra large fries and would wash them down with couple large size soft drinks in 20 minutes or so and then repeat the cycle every couple of hours not realizing the extent of harm I was doing to my body and emotions.

I also lead a total couch potato lifestyle which I will tell you about in the next post.

Now I know what you’re thinking: “But you don’t understand” you say. It’s great you’re going to help us, but you as a pharmacist can tell us about the symptoms of diabetes, the control of diabetes, blood pressure, blood sugar, diabetes and obesity, causes of heart disease, effects of obesity, diets for diabetics and all that is great. But do you know what it is like to be like us, living with excess weight every day, having an insatiable appetite and constantly under pressure to lose weight and get on a diet?”

You also tell me: “Do you know what it’s like to try diet after diet only to find yourself gaining all that weight back? Do you know what it’s like to have poor self image, poor self esteem and have your emotions follow your despicable yo yo weight up and down journey? Do you also know what it’s like to be confused with conflicting and misleading information from unreliable websites or media sources or quick weight loss diets or pills to the point where we don’t believe anyone anymore? Do you know what it’s like to be picked on and discriminated against because you are over-weight? And finally do you what it’s like to give up trying because no matter what you do you are doomed anyway to having all the health problems in the world? So leave us alone and let’s enjoy food and the {good life} while we can. Doctors give us pills and tell us to lose weight but nobody understands unless they’ve been in our shoes. So have you been in our shoes and really know what it’s like to have our problems?”

My answer is: Yup I’ve been and walked the same arduous path for 17 years but against all odds I broke free and defeated obesity dead in it’s track before it claimed victory on me.

I’ll tell you my story and details that will blow your mind in the next posting.

Welcome note and blog mission

Welcome to all the participants this is pharmacist George and I tell you that this going to be an exciting and informative blog launch that will improve, enrich and have a permanent impact on your lives. I am the only blogger who is an experienced pharmacist with multiple fields of expertise in chronic diseases and fitness whose mission is to help you defeat chronic silent and awesome killers such as diabetes, pre-diabetes, High cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease, excess weight, a couch potato lifestyle and tobacco addiction.

The big problem

Either one or more or all these factors are affecting just about every family in our great country and worldwide including you. You maybe entangled with one or more of these deadly conditions and you are faced with loads of conflicting and sometimes misleading information and don’t know what to do. So you drop it all and think “since I am doomed and there is nothing I can do, I might as well enjoy it by eating, sitting all day and smoking like there is no tomorrow”. This is not true there is a lot you can do and based on evidence you can stop all these deadly conditions dead in their track but let’s face reality. The lifestyle choices you have been making on a daily basis, the misconceptions and myths you piled up over decades are largely to blame for these multiple epidemics. The food industry and food advertising of unhealthy choices are no small culprit either and have played a major role and are major contributors to the current health crisis you and our healthcare system are facing.

The very effective solution

I promise that I will you help change this mindset because I will show how you can regain total control one small step at a time and you will be able to prevent, bring under total control or even reverse each of those conditions. I also promise that you will not be deprived of any food, never ever be on a diet again and you would not have to go to the Gym either. Believe me I know what you are going through because I’ve been there myself and defeated obesity after a 17-year battle (see my shocking photos at my website www.LifestyleMakeoverEbook.com) and I also helped tens of thousands during my 22-year pharmacy career cross to the greener side of health and defeat those chronic conditions and their lives were altered to the better forever.

We can put a stop to all these conditions. Notice that I said “We” because I will give you reliable, evidence based and very simplified tips and information but unless you act on it, for your own sake, you will not be able to rescue yourself and I can’t rescue you. You are the main participant and ultimate beneficiary here.

Future blogs

Future blogs will help you with a Lifestyle Makeover addressing all the important elements you need to bring each of those deadly conditions under control and defeat them by taking simple daily actions. Namely, particular information that will address the disease aspects, important and vital medication issues, valuable disease monitoring factors, disease complications and how to avoid them, the importance of making balanced food and activity choices, stress management techniques, addressing factors to boost your sexual health, balanced alcohol intake and an effective way to ending tobacco addiction and much more.

So hang on to your hats and let’s put our hands together and zoom towards better health, a natural lifespan and the best quality of life.
